Biography of Joanna King Dunlap
Joanna King Dunlap, a longtime Florida resident, moved to her present Florida home on the Barrier Island of North Indian River County in 1989. Inspired by this setting, she began studying art at the Vero Beach Center for the Arts receiving traditional training in watercolor, pastel and oil/acrylic painting.
In the past few years, Ms. Dunlap has experimented with various media and non-traditional methods of application. Moved by the works of Jackson Pollock and the school of abstract expressionism, she continues to discover new techniques to capture the colors and forms of her natural Florida surroundings.
The interaction of light, water, wind and native Florida foliage continue to be her favorite subjects and help sustain her artistic energy.
Many of Ms. Dunlap's earlier works adorn the homes and offices (of her family and friends) in Miami, Coconut Grove, Key Biscayne, Boca Raton, Vero Beach, California and New York.
